How to use fear to your advantage?

What are you afraid of? Everyone fears something. It may be animals, insects, heights, tests, public speaking, driving or anything in the world. Fear is a huge factor in one’s life. It could ruin your life, or it can make you stronger. The choice is up to you.

My fear is being average and having done nothing to change the world for the better when I die. I don’t have any regrets in my life, but if I die knowing that I had the power to change the world and I didn’t, that would be the biggest regret of all. I used to have a fear that I was not good enough. Because of the fear, I never felt that I would amount to anything ever and I always thought I would live an ordinary life and have an ordinary job and purpose.

I hated that I was controlled by my fear until I read this quote by Deanna Raybourn, “But this is a thing that I know – to live with fear is not to live at all. A man will die every moment he is afraid.” I thought about this a lot over time and asked myself, “Am I really living my life, or am I just existing and trying to get through it?”. I mean, why was I afraid of being inadequate or not being good enough. I needed to work harder and focus all my energy on myself rather than feeding the wrong fear. So I feared the opposite, which is the fear of not doing anything about my current situation.

How to use fear positively?

Use fear as a motivator because it makes you do things you wouldn’t do (good things) and it makes you uncomfortable, so it gets you out of your comfort zone. Will Smith used to be scared of heights, yet to battle that fear, he went sky diving and in his own words, “Somebody opens the door, and in that moment, you realize you’ve never been in a freaking airplane with the door open. You’re looking out down to death. They say, ‘On three,’ and they say, ‘One, two,’ and he pushes you on two because people grab on three. You go, ‘Ahhh.’ You fall out of the airplane. In one second, you realize that it’s the most blissful experience of your life. You’re flying. There’s zero fear. You realize at the point of maximum danger is the point of minimum fear. It’s bliss. Why were you scared in your bed the night before? What do you need that fear for? Everything up to the stepping point, there’s actually no reason to be scared. It only just ruins your day. The best things in life are on the other side of terror, on the other side of your maximum fear, are all of the best things in life.” If you don’t believe me, at least believe him!

I guess Mountain Dew was always right ‘Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai’ (‘There’s success beyond fear’).

Fear is just a figment of your own mind. It is caused by trauma. The best way to fight it is head-on. Live outside the confines of your own limitations. You can use fear to power yourself to success. All you need is a will to do better or crazy idea or anything at all. So use your fears and build a better you for a better future!
