You and only You Are the Master of Your Life

We all feel our life is decided for us at a certain point, that it has been set in stone. I know that feeling. I used to feel it every day. In my view, life had only one direction. I knew I had to study, get a job, retire and die. That’s what I was taught my whole life. But was that really what I wanted? NO! The idea of that life scares the living hell out of me. But that fear that I had for this life was so great that it changed the way I thought.

I read a book called the compound effect. It talks about how small changes make a massive change over time. But the first rule it taught me was to be my best self. I have to take 100 percent responsibility for every decision and every action that I have ever made and will make. I needed to stop blaming life or others for my mistakes or successes. Yes, they are a factor, but a tiny one.

I looked back at my life and remembered every decision I ever made (mostly bad). Still, from that day, I took responsibility for my life. I took my life into my hands and told myself every bad thing that has ever happened to me was my fault because of my decisions. I took ONE HUNDRED percent responsibility for it. I told myself that I will make every decision carefully by evaluating every option and choosing the best one for the future I wanted for myself, for the life I wanted.

How I took control of my life?

I took several steps to take control of my life and which I am still taking. The main ones that I feel impacted me the most are:

Changing your thinking

I had a very negative thought process. My mind always went to what could go wrong or why is this happening to me. I changed this to what could go right and how can I learn from this. What I’m trying to tell you is that for a change try thinking positively. A lot of people have a problem when I say “be positive”. I’m not asking you to be positive. I’m asking you to change the way you think from a victim mindset to a winner mindset.

Choices and decisions

Your choices and decisions shape your very future. Every next second is dependent upon the choices you make right now. I believe that your future is always changing. If you’re making bad decisions one day and then the next day you decide to change for the better, your future changes. You had will power to change. If you continued with the wrong decisions, your future would have been very different. So always think before you make a choice or a decision. Think about how your decision will affect your future self.

A will to be better

This is, by far, the most crucial point. If you do not have the will to change for the better, then everything else is useless. You have to find it in you, in your purpose, or in anyone. But you have to find a will. Without this will, this desire you would not want to change. You won’t have faith in yourself when the times get hard. Will, desire and faith go hand in hand. You have to have one to have the others. So, find your purpose or a desire to better yourself or for someone close to you. Tell yourself that you want to change. Tell yourself that you have what it takes to be the best, and trust me, you will.

These are just some of the ways that I used to take control of my life. I know I have a lot more to learn. But it’s about taking the first step. Once you accept that, soon you’ll be walking, and then running and jumping. So take the first step in taking control of your life. Apply these rules to your life and watch yourself change. I do not want any of you to live an average life. Live a life that makes you happy. Live a life that inspires you and everyone around you. Live your life the way YOU want to. All you have to do is take control, and you will be the Master of your life!

“You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”
